10-Men Downs Extend Unbeaten Run To 49

Ten-men Mamelodi Sundowns held Lamontville Golden Arrows to a goalless draw and extended their unbeaten run this season to 49 matches.

The game started with high intensity, with both Sundowns and Arrows going at each other. Downs had an opportunity after three minutes, when Lucas Ribeiro found Thembinkosi Lorch with a great pass but his shot was saved by Ismail Watenga.

Ribeiro had another chance in the 15th minute but Watenga was equal to the task again.

Arrows got a chance via counter attack and Knox Mutizwa’s shot was denied by Ronwen Williams. Nduduzo Sibiya had another chance immediately after that but his shot went straight to Williams.

After 27 minutes, Aubrey Modiba made a good run on the left side and took a shot but it went just wide.

Sundowns combined well after 30 minutes, as Themba Zwane connected with Lorch who put a nice pass to Esquivel but he sent his shot over the crossbar.

Just a few minutes later, Marcelo Allende found Esquivel with a ball over the defence but the Argentine failed to connect with the ball as he touched it straight to Watenga.

With a minute left form half-time, Arrows played an over ball the defence but Williams came off to his line and tackled Knox Mutizwa, which earned him a yellow card.

Immediately after the break, Sundowns we’re reduced to 10-men after Mosa Lebusa received a straight red card following a tackle on Lungelo Nguse. Arrows had another clear chance in the 51st minute but Nhlanhla Zwane failed to finish.

After 66 minutes gone, Junior Mendieta produced a moment of brilliance, cutting inside to take a shot, but Watenga produced another top save.

Sundowns kept on pushing despite being down to 10 men, but Arrows remained firm and looked to catch Downs on the break.

With five minutes left Sundowns played a short corner, and Allende had a brilliant shot but Watenga once again saved his side. It was a bit end-to-end end stuff, as Arrows had another chance but Morena came up with a huge block.
