City Suffer Mayo Blow

Cape Town City forward Khanyisa Mayo has been confirmed to be out for three to four weeks out following an injury.

Mayo got injured a week ago when City played against Supersport United in a DStv Premiership fixture.

The 24-year-old missed a clash against Orlando Pirates which Citizens won by 2-1.

iDiski Times has learnt that Mayo, the son of former Bafana Bafana striker, Patrick, suffered a minor Medial ligament (MCL) tear in his knee, and he is expected to be out for about three to four weeks.

The medial collateral ligament (MCL) is one of the ligaments in the knee joint. A ligament is a tough, flexible band of tissue that holds bones and cartilage together.

It connects the bottom of the thighbone (femur) to the top of the shinbone (tibia). The MCL helps keep the knee from moving side to side. It is not severe as compared to anterior cruciate ligaments (ACL), although both are related to the knee.

The former Richards Bay striker is now doing his rehab and is expected to be back in training within the next few weeks again.

The Cape Town-based side, whose morale is high having defeated Pirates, next travel to the Eastern Cape to face Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday (17:30).

Chippa are without a win in the last five league matches, including a lost to the same City 2-1 in October in the reverse fixture.
