Kekana – How Thobejane Blew My Mind

Former Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana has revealed how Kgoloko Thobejane “completely blew his mind” with his football knowledge.

Kekana has long switched the pitch for the tv studio and has been working as analyst for SABC, while also being a regular on the Sundowns pitchside podcast.

He also recently caught up with iDiski Times‘ Rob Delport and among the many topics discussed, revealed how former Baroka coach Thobejane surprised him with his football knowledge.

“I was telling one of my colleagues now in the SABC there, there is one man who blew my mind when it comes to football knowledge, and that was Kgoloko Thobejane,” he told iDiski Times.

“For me and I still didn’t get enough of the knowledge that he possesses in terms of the game.

“And it’s funny because when you see him in post-match, he doesn’t speak about all those things and you ask yourself how? He taught us so much in the space that we spent some time with him.

“I am lost for words to explain how refreshing it was to just be around him. Because I was told about him before, even when I was a kid I always knew of him and how great he was as a footballer, around there, around Limpopo.

“To know that he’s got that knowledge, to learn that he’s got that knowledge, that was mind-blowing.

“And they were like, ‘Do you know Screamer?’ and I like how they refer to him as Screamer as a nickname. And I was like, ‘Screamer?’ He looked at me and smiled and said, ‘You nearly killed me with this match, and I made sure that you didn’t do this’.

“I realised this guy knows what he is doing. Because you recall all the things that you found difficult while playing against his teams. And he is quality. Alright, we played a match, and I couldn’t believe what a player he is still.”
