Mabasa – How Komphela Got The Best Out Of Me

Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has spoken about his reunion with Steve Komphela saying the Golden Arrows head coach got the best out of him last year.

Mabasa worked with Komphela when he was coming up as a youngster at Bloemfontein Celtic and again in the first half of the current campaign while he was on loan at Moroka Swallows where the striker scored six goals in 13 appearances.

The 27 year old tells IDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in edition 145 of the newspaper, that Komphela is the kind of person who can reach any kind of player and he is grateful they reunited when they did.

“Yes, coach Steve is a very good motivator, you know, he’s a father figure to all of his players,” Mabasa told iDiski Times.

“And he knows how to get into a player’s head, if they’re not in the right headspace or maybe if they are feeling overconfident sometimes. You know he can bring you back down to earth and level-headed and remind you of what’s important in your life and in your career and what you need to do and what you need to accomplish as a player as well and what are your targets.”

“So coach Steve is a very good role model and he’s played a big role in my career to this day honestly, and I give him all the credit and all the praise for that.”
