Spurs Make Shock Decision

Cape Town Spurs are set to part ways with Technical Director Sean Connor after an alleged fallout with head coach Ernst Middendorp.

Connor, who previously worked in South Africa back in 2014 with Black Leopards, made a surprise return to the country in October as the new TD of the struggling promoted outfit.

He was appointed as interim head coach after the exit of Shaun Bartlett after a run of seven straight defeats after their top-flight promotion.

He oversaw five games, losing four and winning their first game of the season with a shock 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates in Athlone Stadium but a month later, Middendorp arrived as the official successor of Bartlett.

Sources within the squad have informed iDiski Times that despite the recent upturn in results, there’s been friction between the coach and some members of the dressing room and now after disagreements between Connor and Middendorp, the former has been relieved of his duties.

With two wins and two draws in the opening four games of 2024, Middendorp has offered Spurs a real lifeline, but several players have voiced their concerns over the frequent clashing with the senior figures in the dressing room.

It’s understood that Middendorp had also offered to resign should a decision not be made on Connor, with the club siding with the experienced mentor, who they believe can lead them to retain their top-flight status.
