Mammila Reacts To Nwabali Award Omission

Chippa United Technical Director Morgan Mammila has opened up on the omission of Stanley Nwabali in the Goalkeeper of the Season nominees.

The Nigeria number one goalkeeper has emerged as one of the leading stoppers on the continent and finished as runner-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

He was ousted to the Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament by Ronwen Williams but has attracted global interest in his services for his impressive displays.

With 11 clean sheets in 25 games, Nwabali’s performances for the Chilli Boys also drew plaudits but it wasn’t enough to be included amongst the top three goalkeepers for the 2023/24 campaign.

“I’m personally not that disappointed for the absence of Nwabali on DStv Premiership Goalkeeper of the season,” he told iDiski Times.

“We’re proud of his 12 clean sheets [in all competitions] in his first season in South Africa and his performances [are] recognised by his country that makes him the number one keeper for Nigeria national team.

“We understand that we see football differently and we move on.”

Ronwen Williams, Sage Stephens and Badra Ali Sangare have made the top three for the annual PSL Awards.
