Mokwena Reveals Targets For Perfect 2024/25 Season

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has discussed his targets for a perfect 2024/25 campaign, revealing that he would like his team to give it a go where they fell short in 2023/24.

The 37-year-old mentor was named DStv Premiership Coach of the Season after leading Sundowns to a seventh consecutive titles, while also clinching the inaugural African Football League (AFL).

They also reached the finals of the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup but came second-best against Orlando Pirates on both occasions.

Sundowns were also knocked out of the Carling Knockout Cup in the last 16 round by TS Galaxy after a dramatic 5-4 penalty shootout and failed to progress beyond the penultimate stage against ES Tunis in the CAF Champions League.

The Chloorkop-based side is expected to have the busiest schedule in South African football for the upcoming term as they will be partaking in the DStv Premiership, Champions League, Club World Cup, AFL, Carling Knockout as well as the Wafa Wafa and Ke Yona cup competitions.

“Better than this season. It has to be better than this season,” Mokwena said on Power 98.7FM when asked about his perfect 2024/25.

“Better than this season means MTN8. We were in the final and lost on penalties. It means winning the MTN8.

“The league title means surpassing the number of points that we have accumulated and winning it again.

“The Champions League. We want to win the Champions League but I say to you, and I’m very realistic in that sense that next season for me, we need to be in the final. We must be in the final.

“We had to show progress and to show that we’ve developed and improved, and we must be in the final of the Champions League and give ourselves a chance to win the Champions League.

“Because you can’t say you want to win the Champions League and you’re not even in the final of that Champions League.

“So, because we’ve done two back-to-back semi-finals, the improvement for me next season is the final of the Champions League.

“And then the Carling Black Label is to do better than the first round, the Nedbank Cup is to do better than losing in the final and that is winning the Nedbank Cup.”

This website has gathered intel that Masandawana are already preparing for pre-season that will see them travel to Europe next month ahead of the upcoming campaign.
