Kaizer Chiefs playmaker Nkosingiphile Ngcobo has opened up on his future at the club amid speculation that he’s been offered a new contract.
Ngcobo, who turned 24, has been lauded as the future of the club since graduating from their academy system back in 2019.
The 2020/21 season during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic was his breakout campaign as he featured 40 times for the first team in all competitions, as they reached the final of the CAF Champions League.
But his regression due to form and injuries has been evident in the tumultuous period of Chiefs, with his last goal coming in December 2021 in a 2-0 win over Maritzburg United.
Mshini remains committed to the cause, and the club has been looking to reward him with a new long-term contract to fend off potential interest and secure his services.
“I have a contract with Kaizer Chiefs, I’m working hard and I’m focusing on the next game to get three points and I can say my blood is Gold and Black,” Ngcobo said when asked about his future by iDiski Times.
“Yes I’ve had challenges with some injuries, but now I’m back, focused and I want to make sure I stay fit and play more games.”
Having not featured for Chiefs in eight of the first 10 games of the season under Molefi Ntseki, the diminutive talent has now started all four games under interim coach Cavin Johnson.
“Everyone is doing their best and doing everything to make sure the team gets maximum points and playing well – as I was sitting on the sidelines, I was preparing myself so that when I get a chance to play I can try and help the team,” he said about his spell outside the first XI.
“Sometimes I do get that [I’ve not lived up to my potential] but I’m working on my game and trying not to rush too much – I’m working on my game and working on making sure I get where I want to be.”
Ngcobo will be aiming to play a central role for Chiefs when they take on Richards Bay on Saturday afternoon at FNB Stadium (15h30).
