PSL Promotion/Playoffs Goes Down To The Wire

The PSL Promotion/Playoffs will be decided on the last day after the University of Pretoria were held to 1-1 draw by Richards Bay at Tuks Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The home side came out firing on all cylinders and saw their efforts nearly pay off as Thabang Sibanyoni forced Samil Magoola into a stunning finger-tip save as early as the eighth minute.

In the 21st minute, Sibanyoni wasn’t far from giving Tuks the lead after being on the end of a corner but his header was straight at Magoola.

Tebogo Mohlamonyane tried his luck from 30 yards out in the 24th minute but his effort failed to hit the target.

The Natal Rich Boyz were gifted the lead in the 40th minute after AmaTuks goalkeeper Edward Maova spilled the ball into his own net, failing to hold on to Yanela Mbuthuma’s powering header, as the visitors took the 1-0 advantage into the break.

Tlisane Motaung’s half-time talk seemed to have spurred his players on as Kamogelo Pheeane struck in the 48th minute to bring Tuks back on level terms.

Mohlamonyane was wasteful in the 60th minute rattling his effort against the crossbar from close range.

Mbuthuma was not far from bagging his brace of the afternoon in the 76th minute and was unlucky to have his audacious shot cleared off the line.

Sanele Barns thought his shot had found its way past Maova after rounding the Tuks defence in the 82nd minute but the home side’s shot-stopper made a stunning save.

The Namibian international then produced a double save from Mbuthuma in the 83rd minute to keep Tuks in the match.

Maova pulled off a big save in stoppage time to deny Barns and the Natal Rich Boyz the winner as the tie ended in a stalemate.

It is however still advantage for Vusumuzi Vilakazi’s side as they held onto the top spot ahead of their do-or-die clash against Baroka FC on Wednesday, June 19, at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
