Shabalala Makes Honest Self Assessment Over ‘Bad’ Season

Kaizer Chiefs talent Mduduzi Shabalala has given an honest self-assessment on his performances this season, saying it was a “bad season” based on his talent.

Shabalala was speaking to Velile Mnyandu in Edition 152 of iDiski Times and the 20-year-old admitted that as an attacker, he needs to be involved in more goals.

“It was a bad season for me, according to my talent and what I can offer to the team,” Shabalala told iDiski Times.

“A lot of ups and downs on my side and I think I’ve started to play now, which is a bad thing for me.

“It shows how much I must work in the off-season. I think so far the past games that I’ve played I’ve been doing well but lacking that element of surprise in the final third, the calm and just to take those chances.”

Since doing the interview, where he admitted he needs to be involved in more goals, Shabalala has actually been on the scoresheet twice, his first two goals of the season, while he also has one assist.

“Yes, as an attacker it’s a demand for you to have goals, to create goal-scoring opportunities for the strikers and everyone in the team,” he added.

“And this season it hasn’t been going my way but I’ll work on it every day as a player and hope for things to get better.”
