Stellenbosch FC has agreed terms for the signing of Chippa United defender Zuko Mdunyelwa on a pre-contract agreement.
The 21-year-old full-back looks set for a return to the Western Cape where he previously turned out for Cape Town City and the now-defunct Cape United.
It marks a major blow to the Chilli Boys as he has become an important figure in their squad, featuring in 14 consecutive league games – while he amassed 20 appearances last season, having initially been roped in by former head coach Gavin Hunt.
iDiski Times has it on good authority the player has signed a two-year deal to team up with Steve Barker’s side ahead of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership campaign.
Stellies were seeking adequate competition for club captain Deano van Rooyen ahead of next season and sought out the utility defender as the perfect addition.
Mdunyelwa’s form with the Chili Boys earned him a national U23 call-up for AFCON qualifiers while in June 2022 he was in the Bafana Bafana squad for COSAFA Cup.
