Sundowns Breaks Incredible Pitso PSL Record

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Stellenbosch FC by 1-0 to break the PSL points record set by Pitso Mosimane’s side in 2025/26.

The top-of-the-table clash started on high note with both Stellenbosch and Sundowns looking to control the game. Stellies where the first ones to come close with Iqraam Rayners shooting just inches away from the polls.

In the 30th minute, Sundowns had a glorious chance with Peter Shalulile asking Sage Stephens some questions, but the Stellies stopper was equal to the task.

Right after that the Cape Winelands made a good attack which Bathusi Aubaas bringing down Rayners inside the box – the referee initially looked away but linesman flagged for a penalty. Rayners dusted himself up and took the penalty but Williams produced a good save to keep the score 0-0.

With three minutes before half-time, Sundowns had yet another good attack with Thembinkosi Lorch and Sipho Mbule combining well. Lesiba Nku produced a cross, but Shalulile puts his header over the crossbar

The second half was underway and Sundowns looked like a team that want to take charge of the game.

Two minutes before the hour mark, Downs had a chance, Shalulile took a good shot but again Stephens was saved it.

Sundowns broke the deadlock in the 66th minute after Lorch played a cross inside the box and it found Lesiba Nku who made no mistake to make it 1-0.

The DStv Premiership champions managed to held Stellies at bay to produce another cleansheet and go unbeaten in their 28th league game.

They moved to 72 points from 28 games, breaking the 71 points set by Mosimane and his side in 2015/16.
