Tinkler Hails Emerging City Star

Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler is excited about the emergence of midfielder Taahir Goedeman this season after several dynamic displays.

Goedeman was promoted to the City first-team in the 2019/20 season but appears to be coming of age now at 23 and completed his first 90 minutes in their 1-0 loss to SuperSport United this weekend.

But he stood out with an impressive attacking display as he drove the Citizens forward in a hard-fought direct encounter.

He’s started in all four games for City this season and netted in the 1-0 away from against Moroka Swallows and Tinkler admit’s he’s been impressed with his development.

“He was the only one [who impressed], him and Keanu, [Taahir] showed bit of composure, ask for the ball, received the ball, turned, looked to combine, he was the only one, so I’m very proud of him,” Tinkler said about the emerging talent. “He also got 90 minutes in his legs which is something he’s never done before either.”

“He’s a very creative player but sometimes he needs to play with a little bit more control, there were a couple of occasions [against SuperSport] where he forced it a little and gave the ball away unnecessarily you know.

“But for the majority [of the time] he is extremely confident on the ball, he combines very well, has good awareness of what’s happening around him and he sees things quicker than others, those are the positives and he needs to work on that.”

The midfielder has scored four goals and registered two assists in 45 games for City since being promoted from their DStv Diski Challenge squad.
