Zwane – Chiefs Not Giving Up CAFCL Hopes

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane says they will fight until the end to qualify for the CAF Champions League.

Chiefs returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Chippa United, picking up from the defeat against Sekhukhine at the Peter Mokaba Stadium last weekend.

Ashley du Preez netted a stunning second-half strike the secure the three points, in a gutsy display at a packed Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.

“I think we came into this game knowing we’re coming against a team that is going to make our life difficult as they are fighting for their lives,” Zwane said after the game.

“It was never going to be an easy game but if there’s one thing we did right today, is how we started the game – we dictated terms, we showed intention, showed we wanted to win the game, we had a few early chances we didn’t take but the effort and attitude were second to none.

“At half time we had to encourage them to keep on pushing and give their best and they did exactly that – in the second half we weren’t ruthless, the scoreline wasn’t a reflection of what we saw, it could have been more than 1-0 but yeah, all we needed was three points, we got a clean sheet as well and move on.”

With Chiefs moving three ponts behind SuperSport and two behind Pirates with three games to go – Zwane says they will not give up their hopes of finishing second, despite the Buccaneers holding a game in hand.

“Football is very unpredictable, we fancy our chances, we’ll always fancy our chances, this is a big team, we play to win every game and anything can happen in football,” he added.

“So we’ll keep on pushing. It doesn’t matter how, what’s key is that we continue picking up maximum points in every game that way play.”

Chiefs will face Swallows next on Monday afternoon at FNB Stadium before their Nedbank Cup semi-final against Pirates for an eagerly anticipated Soweto Derby.
