Arsenal narrowly edged out old foes Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 to claim all the bragging rights in the 196th North London Derby clash at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.
The first attempt on target belonged to Tottenham who had Dejan Kulusevski forcing David Raya into a fine save at the near post just five minutes in.
Two minutes later, Raya reacted to a swung in cross to parry it away from danger.
Kai Havertz’s 17th-minute header in the Tottenham box was denied by Guglielmo Vicario before Gabriel Martnelli then shot straight at Vicario two minutes later.
A big chance in the closing stages of the first half fell to Brennan Johnson but the Spurs number 10 skied his effort into the stands in the 40th minute. The first period fail to yield any goals ending 0-0.
Dominic Solanke’s awkward angle header in the 47th minute failed to trouble Raya, deflecting out for a corner.
In the 49th minute, Micky Van de Ven rose high to meet Johnson’s cross, but Raya was equally up to the task.
Johnson never got a clean connection in the 60th minute with his shot straight at Raya.
The breakthrough fell in favour of the visitors with Gabriel’s thumping header in the 64th minute to make it 1-0 to Arsenal.
The win sees the Gunners leapfrog Liverpool into second position, two points behind leaders Manchester City.
