Manchester City kicked off their Premier League title defence with a comfortable 2-0 win at Chelsea on Sunday.
Erling Haaland, who won the Premier League golden boot over the last two seasons, kicked off his season in style and gave City a well-deserved lead after 18 minutes.
After being found by Bernardo Silva, Haaland shook off two Chelsea defenders before chipping the ball over Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
Kevin De Bruyne almost made it 2-0 just two minutes but he curled his shot just next to the post.
After 36 minutes, it was Jeremy Doku’s turn but Sanchez pushed his deflected shot over the bar.
The home side had the ball in the back of the net after Nicolas Jackson punished a spill by Ederson but he was in an offside position.
Haaland had the first notable chance of the second half but his shot from the edge of the box was parried by Sanchez.
Chelsea came close to equalising in the 61st minute but Ederson denied Jackson from close range.
The game remained close until Mateo Kovacic scored City’s second with thumping shot from outside the box to all but secure three points against his former side.
