Radebe Reacts To Global Leeds Role

Leeds United legend and set-to-be announced Global Ambassador Lucas Radebe says it’s a special club that hopes will go from strength to strength after their return to the Premier League.

The current leaders of the Championship secured promotion with three games to spare alongside Burnley, which sees Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster also return to the top-flight of English football.

After 16 years in the second tier, Leeds returned to the Premier League back in July 2020 but were unable to fully establish themselves and returned to the second-tier three seasons later and now two years later and under new ownership, they have won promotion under head coach Daniel Farke.

“It’s a special club, I think once I arrived at Leeds, I could feel this is where I belong and to be honest, history says as well, shows where this club comes from and it’s testament to the importance of Leeds being in the Premier League,” Radebe said.

“Clubs love coming to Elland Road to compete with Leeds, and for me, for such a club, it means so much, they are so rich in support and I’m so excited to see them back up competing with the best.

“Obviously the investment needs to be great to make sure they stay up to make sure they compete in the league and compete for trophies and hopefully get to the Champions League.”

Earlier this week, Angus Kinnear, the CEO of Premier League-bound side, had told Robert Marawa that the club are set to name ‘The Chief’ their first ever global ambassador and Radebe says he feels honoured to receive such recognition.

“I think it’s a great honour,” he stated.

“Being appointed as the first global ambassador for such a great club goes beyond who I am and what I gave to the club and what the club stands for. Hopefully I embody that.

“To be honest, this is an achievement where you get recognised for contributing towards the betterment of the community, it came as a surprise because there are greater players than me who were born in Leeds.

“To be able to be part of the club is amazing.”
