AmaZulu are currently assessing three foreign players as new coach Pablo Franco Martin is trying to improve the squad, iDiski Times has learnt.
The first is Victorien Adebayor, an attacker from Niger who was on the books of RS Berkane last season, winning the CAF Super Cup last year when his Moroccan side defeated neighbours Wydad Casablanca, though he was not part of the side.
He also lifted the Moroccan Throne Cup, where Berkane defeated Josef Zinnbauer’s Raja CA in the final. According to Transfermarkt, he has scored 19 goals in 54 international appearances for Niger.
Another player who has made his way to the Usuthu camp is Ilias Hassan from Denmark, who was calm and composed in twinning at the back with Ramahlwe Mphahlele in the semi-final of the Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup on Saturday.
The 24-year-old was previously playing in the third division in his home country for FA 2000.
Another player who is being assessed by AmaZulu is Michel Espinosa. The 29-year-old defensive midfielder featured in the Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup final defeat to Royal AM.
He was previously playing for Excelsior Virton in Belgium, having also had a stint with Dinamo București in Romania and spent time with many teams in France such as Toulouse and Clermont in youth teams.
The 29-year-old midfielder was born Yaounde in Cameroon but grew up in France.
The decision on these additions, if they can impress Usuthu coach Pablo Franco Martin, will be made this week before they launch the league campaign of 2023/24 against Royal AM at Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday.
Usuthu were also keen on Young African SC defender Yannick Bangala Litombo, but he opted to join Azam in Tanzania.
