AmaZulu Axe Gambia International

AmaZulu have finally terminated the contract of Gambian international Matarr Ceesay, iDiski Times has learnt.

Ceesay has been on thin ice with AmaZulu, especially this season, as he has never set the scene alight since he arrived at the beginning of last campaign under coach Benni McCarthy.

Because he occupies a foreign slot in the squad, the Durban-based side has decided to terminate his contract with immediate effect.

This publication revealed that Ceesay was on his way out alongside Butho Ncube, Sibusiso Magaqa and Samkelo Mgwazela in December last year. The latter duo has since joined Royal AM.

However, Ceesay, who has only featured in one game for Usuthu this campaign, a 2-1 shock loss to Chippa United that resulted in the departure of Brandon Truter, is the last to leave out of those four.

He was part of Usuthu training last week ahead of the club’s big win over Kaizer Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday.

The Gambian international, who was also troubled by injuries, in total featured in just 15 matches in all competitions in almost two seasons with the club.

His situation became dim following the arrival of Junior Dion from Marumo Gallants, who has taken also taken up one of the foreign spots.

Usuthu have five foreign players in their ranks this season, namely Riaan Hanamub, Dion, Rally Bwalya, Augustine Chidi Kwem and Gabonese goalie Joel Amonome.

However, Amonome has been loaned out to Motsepe Foundation side Uthongathi FC within the KwaZulu-Natal province.
