Augsburg’s New Signing Impressed With Mzansi

New FC Augsburg signing Samuel Essende says he’s been impressed by everything in South Africa since his arrival.

The Paris Saint-Germain academy product joined the club last month in a €4-million transfer from Portuguese top-flight side Vizela where he scored 15 goals in 31 league games.

Within a new team, and his first pre-season with the club, it’s taken him on a unique adventure, something he’s admitted he’s thrilled about as he now gets accustomed to his new surroundings ahead of his first taste of the Bundesliga.

“I have to thank everyone [in Mpumalanga], the welcoming was amazing it’s my first time in South Africa, the welcome was great and for my first experience here and for now it’s been very nice,” Essende said.

“The pitches here were very nice, the sessions were very nice too in training, we eating good, we sleeping good which I think is the most important, so yeah for now everything has been perfect and we’ve enjoyed the trip.”

Essende started his first game for the club in their 2-1 win over Young Africans SC on Saturday afternoon in the Mpumalanga Premier’s Cup at Mbomebela S
