Big Win For Richards Bay As Chiefs Suffer Again

Relegation-threatened Richards Bay beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 to go eight points clear of bottom Cape Town Spurs with six matches before the season.

Chiefs started the match on a high note with Mduduzi Shabalala taking a shot from just outside the box but Salim Magoola was equal to the task.

Eight minutes later, Shabalala took another shot, again Magoola denied him.

After 28 minutes of play Chiefs continued with their search for the opener as Christian Saile tested Magoola after a good pass from Ashley Du Preez.

Five minutes before the break, Du Preez took a left-footed shot after Siyethemba Sithebe played a good pass to set him up but Magoola remained unshaken.

After dominating the first half but failing to convert the chances. The referee blew for the halftime break with the scoreline 0-0.

The second half started with Chiefs pushing for that opening but not creating clear goalscoring opportunities.

In the 63rd minute, Sanele Barns played an outswing cross from a corrner, which found captain Simphiwe Mcineka unmarked in the near post and he headed home to make it 1-0.

Amakhosi kept on knocking, and after playing good short passes Du Preez took a shot that took a deflection, but Magoola produced what could be seen as the save of the match.

With 10 minutes to go, Barns played a pass to Lwandle Mabuya and he put a cross inside the box it took a deflection on Given Msimango and nearly ended in the net but a corner kick was given.

In the end, Richards Bay held out for a valuable three points, while it was another defeat for Cavin Johnson’s Chiefs side.
