Billiat Opens Up On Zim U-Turn

Yadah FC forward Khama Billiat is pumped up for the upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers as he makes his return to the Zimbabwean national team after retiring three years ago.

The former Kaizer Chiefs forward announced his retirement in November 2021 after serving the Warriors with distinction for several years. Billiat announced his return to the Zim national team last week after he had a good start at Yadah FC this term, netting 10 goals.

New Warriors team head coach Michael Nees named the former Mamelodi Sundowns star in the squad that will face Kenya and Cameroon this week.

Speaking to the media, Billiat is eyeing a positive return to the fold, and feels they will do great.

“This call-up means a lot to me, to represent our great country, Zimbabwe against Kenya and Cameroon,” Billiat said according to Soccer24.

“This is very important to me, and I hope we’ll do very well with our new coach. We’re looking forward, he is a great man.

“It [the preparations] has been great so far, and we’re feeling confident.”

The 34-year-old praised Nees and emphasised that he is getting along with him and that the team is responding well to him.

“He is a great man, I have spent some time with him, and we getting along very well,” Billiat added

“The guys are also feeling confident and well-motivated. I think it’s going to be a great journey.”

Zimbabwe takes on the Harambee Stars at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala later this afternoon.
