Cardoso – Coaches Also Have Emotions…

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso says recent emotions on the touchline is human nature and showing it is important at times.

Cardoso goes into the Nedbank Cup opener for the season with Sundowns at the back of an away defeat to Al Hilal in the CAF Champions League where they have since returned from Rwanda.

With four games played since the return from the Africa Cup of Nations break on domestic football, Sundowns have won against ORBIT College and Sekhukhune United in the league, while drawing and losing to Hilal in the continental space.

“I have been speaking about this for three or four press conferences, [the fans attack] I think it’s time to finish it, so if you don’t mind, don’t take me as bad behaviour or not wanting to answer your question, but there’s a moment you touch too much something that smells bad and it spreads the smell,” he said about the reaction of fans recently at Loftus Versfeld after dropping points to Hilal.

“So, I would just skip the answer, and I think we should just focus on the Nedbank Cup, the competition we have to play, in the good name of the competition, the place we are, it’s too important for us to worry about Miguel Cardoso’s situation or fans.”

However, the particular questioned posed to Cardoso in the pre-match press conference, was the clear sign of relief when they beat Babina Noko in Polokwane, with two stoppage-time goals, from Nuno Santos and Brayan Leon.

“The only comment I have about this situation is the fact that coaches also have emotions, coaches also are human beings and when we want to celebrate something, it’s because they feel it’s really important to do it,” he stated.

“But there have been many moments where I did not celebrate in the same way, it’s all about the moment, the will to celebrate the achievement of my players and has to do with being part of people who were so commitment with achieving a result, the fans, the players, inside, outside the pitch – the coaches, that’s all.”

Sundowns host the Motsepe Foundation Championship side tomorrow at Loftus Versfeld (19h00).
