Chippa United chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi has raised eyebrows on Wednesday morning by admitting he and the club will support their goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali and Nigeria over Bafana Bafana in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final on Wednesday.
Nwabali, 27, has been one of the revelations at the continental showpiece in Ivory Coast, keeping four clean sheets to help his side qualify for the Last-four.
On Wednesday, Nwabali and the Super Eagles will face Bafana Bafana, who have also kept four clean sheets so far.
Mpengesi has now further spiced up the tie by admitting he and the club will stand with their goalkeeper over the South African national team.

“With Stanley’s rising profile and international attention it brings to Chippa United FC, the benefits have been nothing but positive. Therefore, I and Chippa United FC stand behind our player Stanley Nwabali and the Nigerian Super Eagles tomorrow [Wednesday] against South Africa Bafana Bafana. We wish the Super Eagles all the best,” he wrote via a statement.
