Bafana Bafana’s all-time record goalscorer Benni McCarthy has sent a message to the South African team ahead of their 2023 AFCON semi-final against Nigeria.
McCarthy, who was once a candidate to become Bafana coach, is now part of the technical team at English Premier League giants Manchester United.
South Africa’s only UEFA Champions League winner (winning with Porto), McCarthy scored 31 goals for his country, including seven at the 1998 AFCON when Bafana reached the final.
Speaking to Rob Delport ahead of Wednesday’s match, McCarthy sent a message to Hugo Broos’ Bafana team.

“Rob, my message to Bafana is simple,” McCarthy told iDiski Times.
“All the best for the game, every single South African is behind them and wants them to give it their all.
“You’ve made us very proud so far, now go and give it all you got and an AFCON final place awaits you!
“Hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie.”
The match between Bafana and Nigeria will kick off at 19:00 SAST, with a place in Sunday’s final up for grabs.
