Davids Urges Nigerians To Support Pirates

Orlando Pirates coach Fadlu Davids is hopeful Akwa United fans, the club Olisa Ndah won the NPFL title last season will come out to support them in the CAF Confederation Cup final.

Ndah enjoyed a breakout season in Nigeria in the 2020/21 campaign where he lifted the league title and broke into the Super Eagles set-up before earning a move to the Soweto giants in the off-season.

He’s gone from strength to strength at the club emerging as a leading figure in their back-line with commanding displays domestically and on the continent as Pirates have gone all the way to the final.

And it could well end up to be a fairytale story as he returns to the arena where he made a name for himself in West Africa to lift another prestigious trophy as the Buccaneers face 2019/20 Confederation Cup champions RS Berkane.

“I think we’re quite happy over the neutral venue of course if the final was in Morocco it would be a different story but we’re quite happy,” David said on Tuesday morning in the official media briefing before departing for Uyo.

“I urge the Nigerian fans to come and support us, their prodigal son returns to the Stadium, Ndah, we’re playing at the Akwa Stadium where he won the league before he joined Pirates. We hope the Nigerians will get behind us in this stadium and we have the extra 12th man in the stadium, so the neutral venue could become our home ground, we’re quite happy.”

Pirates will take on Florent Ibenge’s outfit at the Godswil Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria on Friday evening at 21h00.
