Baroka pulled off a stunning upset against Durban City, while Cape Town Spurs remains in the relegation zone following a goalless draw against JDR Stars.
The Motsepe Foundation Championship weekend commenced on Friday with Highbury FC thrashing title contenders Milford FC 5-1 in the Eastern Cape. Koketso Sekgodiso opened the scoring, Matome Mabeba doubled the lead from the penalty spot just before halftime, and Tsepo Cetywayo made it 3-0 at the beginning of the second half. Thokozani Ngubani scored a brace to make it 5-0. Midfield maestro Mthetheleli Mthiyane scored the solitary goal for Milford.
Relegation-threatened Venda FC played to a goalless draw against Pretoria University. Pretoria Callies took advantage by beating Black Leopards 2-1, with Lindokuhle Nyandeni and Sibongakonke Mgwaba both finding the back of the net.
JDR Stars shared the spoils with Cape Town Spurs after Simangaliso Masilela missed a last-minute penalty. Baroka shocked Durban City with a late winner from David Mathipi. Kabelo Kgositsile scored the opening goal, and Samkelo Maseko equalised for City before Mathipi scored the winner deep in the second half.
Casric Stars were held to a 2-2 draw by ORBIT College following a late goal by ORBIT striker Ayanda Lukhele. Malisela Chokoe and Decide Chauke scored the two goals for Stars. Katlego Cwinyane scored before the late equalizer from Lukhele.
Lerumo United pulled off a stunning 1-0 upset against Upington City at the Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium in the Northern Cape. Despite remaining in 16th place, United are now level on points with 14th-placed Venda and Spurs, who have 16 points. City have only managed one win in their last 13 matches.
