IDiski Times has reliably learned that the 2026 Hollywoodbets Super League will start mid-May in a new format.

The league has been running since 2020 in a format of a usual league format and for the last three seasons 16 teams all played home and away, 30 matches per campaign with the winner determined by a point system.

Throughout its existence the league has been marred by lack of resources, especially financially related ones with some teams having forfeited games because they simply couldn’t afford to travel to some venues. Other teams would travel long distances via road to the detriment of the players and staff.

The 2025 term which was won by perennial winners Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies ended in November and it’s been months of speculation on when the new season would eventually start.

This publication has learned that the proposed new format will be made of two streams of eight sides playing in a festival form like the current DStv Diksi Challenge (DDC), where several games are played at the same venue. However it’s not clear whether the division will be based on an inland and/or coastal.

Sources claim the season is likely to start on 22 May to 24 May at the University of Johannesburg with the second tier league, the SASOL league, expected to start two weeks from that.

The governors of the league, the South African Football Association (SAFA) are yet to make an official pronouncement, though they may release the official fixture this coming weekend.

Source have also told iDiski Times that there are ongoing conversations with the clubs as some have long term arrangements with venue owners because the new format may mean they could bridging contracts at the facilities.
