Hunt Makes Bold Chiefs Claim Should They Sign Mayele

Former SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has made a bold claim that Kaizer Chiefs are capable of winning the treble should they sign in-demand striker Fiston Mayele.

Mayele has been a long-term admirer of the Glamour Boys and single-handedly took down Orlando Pirates with a brace in their CAF Champions League second leg semifinal 3-2 win to seal passage to a two-legged final where they will meet Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 30-year-old DRC international has netted an impressive 15 goals with two assists in 35 games for Pyramids FC in all competitions this season.

Hunt, who is currently out of a job after being sacked by Matsatsantsa following a dismal 2024/25 campaign, believes Mayele can reach 30 goals should he make a switch to the Betway Premiership.

“I think Fiston Mayele could be a 30-goal striker in the PSL. He’s not involved in all the touches on the pitch, he just plays in the box,” Hunt was quoted as saying on SoccerBeat.

“So, if you give him the service, he will score goals on his own by his movements, strength, and power. He’s very good at hitting the target; that’s why I think he’s a 30-goal striker.

“He’s 30 years of age, but there are teams in the PSL that don’t look for a long-term solution but a short-term solution. With the goals Mayele can score, Kaizer Chiefs will win the treble.”

Mayele is believed to be keen on playing for Chiefs having previously worked with Nasreddine Nabi during their days together at Young Africans in Tanzania.

His current contract runs until June 2026 which means any interested parties will have to negotiate with the Egyptian giants in order to buy him out of his contract.
