Marumo Gallants’ second goal against Kaizer Chiefs should have been ruled offside because Phathutshedzo Nange was offside before interfering with play, according to former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani.
Amakhosi suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Bahlabane Ba Ntwa at FNB Stadium after they took a 10th minute lead through Glody Lilepo’s wonder solo strike from outside the box. The home side was then pegged back through goals from Daniel Msendami and Matome Mathiane.
The Glamour Boys thus suffered their 11th league loss of the campaign but Hlungwani, dissecting the second goal on SABC Sport, said it should not have stood.
“We’ll see there Phathutshedzo Nange heading the ball or trying to play the ball,” the “Principal” said on Soccerzone.
“What does the law says? It says making an obvious action. If you look at it there you can see, he [Nange] is in an offside position.
“You can see the leg is in an offside position. So, now when the ball is played, the assistant referees are advised to wait and see if he will interfere or if he will involve himself in active play.
“Let’s see what he does there from an offside position. He jumps there, and when he jumps, he’s now making an obvious action that disturbs [Bruce] Bvuma there to play the ball.
“So, therefore, offside! Incorrect decision was given.”
