iDiski TV analyst Junior Khanye believes that lack of quality in playing personnel was Kaizer Chiefs‘ downfall in their Soweto Derby defeat to Orlando Pirates.
The Glamour Boys lost their 12th Betway Premiership match of the season going down 2-1 to their fiercest nemesis at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Chiefs took the lead through the in-form Glody Lilepo but Pirates rallied back through Evidence Makgopa and Relebohile Mofokeng’s strikes.
Speaking to fellow analyst Nkululeko Nkewu on iDiski TV, Khanye was critical of how Chiefs failed to capitalise and take down Pirates when they were in charge of ball possession.
“Orlando Pirates allowed Kaizer Chiefs build-up. Also, marking Kaizer Chiefs zonally in the middle field,” Khanye said.
“If you look at Mdu[Mduduzi Shabalala], you look at [Yusuf] Maart and also this guy [Nkosingiphile] Ngcobo they had all the time on the ball.
“But they were not effective. They had so many ball possession. They could’ve hurt Orlando Pirates if they were quality of players.
“How many clear-cut chances they created? Yes, it’s only this ball the goalkeeper piled away whereby Maart made a run, deep run and [Pule] Mmodi played him and then he had to cross. And then the other one [Tapelo] Xoki wanted to clear, and the goalkeeper made a save.
“But none other than that, Kaizer Chiefs how many chances they created?
“They pretended as if they are a good side in the first 20 minutes.”
