Khenyeza: I Don’t Know Zwane As A Coach

Golden Arrows coach Mabhuti Khanyeza doesn’t care about the progress of his former teammate Arthur Zwane at Kaizer Chiefs ahead of these two sides’ match this coming weekend.

Khanyeza, whose side will host Zwane’s Chiefs at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday (15:30), says he has not spoken to him since he was given the Amakhosi job at the beginning of the season.

The former striker played with Zwane at Chiefs, winning Telkom Knockout and MTN8 trophies in two seasons with the Soweto giants.

When Khanyeza scored the quickest ever Derby goal against Orlando Pirates in November 2007 at Kings Park Stadium, the venue across Moses Mabhida Stadium, Zwane also scored the other goal as the game ended 2-2 draw.

Just like Khenyeza, who was handed Arrows post as co-coach with Vusi Vilakazi, Zwane was given the Chiefs post during the off-season too, but results have been mixed, though Chiefs are fourth on the log table with 21 points after 13 matches. Amakhosi, who like Arrows, their last game was a win over Pirates late in October before the season was paused due to the FIFA World Cup.

“The last time I knew Arthur was when I was still playing,” said Khenyeza.

“I don’t know him much as a coach. I pay more attention to things we do and I pay less to the neighbors because we are all coaches.

“If I pay too much, then you end up forgetting what your task is. I know Arthur that he’s coaching Kaizer Chiefs, but I don’t know anything after that.”

Arrows started badly this season, losing the first two matches. It sent alarm bells ringing as when that happened in the 2013/14 season, they were relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Things have since improved as the Durban club sit eighth on the DStv Premiership with 16 points after 13 matches.

Arrows host Chiefs having beaten them twice in both league matches last season. The latest was in April in KwaMashu where Njabulo Ngcobo had a shocker game for Chiefs, with Zwane taking him off and the player retaliating by not shaking his hands.

“Worry is for everyone, which is part of life,” said Khenyeza of the team’s poor start.

“And that is good because if you are not worried, then you are not alive and you are not existing.

“If you remember the way we started, we started badly and others started well. But those who started better where are they now?

“If you have seen our league, the difference in points is one or two. You win one you are up, you lose one you are dropping. If you remember when the league started, who was on top? It was TS Galaxy and where is Galaxy now?”
