Makaab Explains Suprise Vilakazi Exit

Sibusiso Vilakazi’s surprise exit at TS Galaxy has been clarified, with his agent Mike Makaab confirming he can join a club outside of the transfer window.

The five-time league winner was confirmed to have left the Rockets this week, just six months into his stay after being lured as a marquee off-season signing.

It was clear his style of play was not suited to what head coach Sead Ramovic was seeking of his team as he was often fielded as a false nine, before falling out of his plans over the last month since the 0-0 draw against Swallows at Dobsonville.

“There have been reports that he had a fallout with the coach, it’s not true, Vila is a thorough professional, the coach never saw him in his plans,” Makaab said on Gagasi FM.

“Sometimes the best laid out plans don’t turn out the way you want them to turn out – Tim Sukazi signed Sbu Vilakazi for a specific reason.

“They had certain plans for him and they didn’t materialise, Vilakazi joined TS Galaxy because of those plans and they didn’t materialise.”

Makaab went on to confirm that the termination took place before the window closed – meaning he is eligible to sign for a new club as a free agent outside the window period.

Should he have parted ways on 1 February and beyond, the 33-year-old would have needed to bide his time until the next window period.

“The mature thing to do, which happened, two days before the transfer window closed, I got a call from Vila [who explained his situation] and asked if we could approach the Chairman for some form of mutual termination.

“And I said if that’s the way you feel and you believe you’re not going to get the requisite game time, then you have my full support. To Tim Sukazi’s credit, we engaged him and the deal was done, literally, immediately. No bad blood at all.”

The 33-year-old made 10 appearances for the Rockets, five of which were starts before parting ways last week.
