Bafana Bafana playmaker Relebohile Mofokeng netted his third goal in his second start in the Belgian Pro League as Royale Union Saint Gilloise thrashed SK Lommel 5-0 on Saturday evening.
The South African talent earned his second league start for RUSG, having scored on his debut in the league coming off the bench in the 5-1 win over Westerlo and earlier this month netting in the 3-0 win over St Truiden.
With five wins and one draw to start the new season, they sit at the summit of the Belgian top-flight, one point ahead of Gent – who have won five from their opening five games, and have a game in hand.
It marks a steady progression for the 21-year-old, who joined from Orlando Pirates in the off-season after winning the Premier Soccer League Footballer of the Season and became a household name in the country.
With 125 games, 29 goals and 31 assists, Mofokeng emerged as one of the leading performers on the continent, and was part of the South Africa national team at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
He’s already featured seven times in all competitions for RUSG, who are competing in the UEFA Europa League, added to their domestic competitions in Belgium this season, and Mofokeng will undoubtedly be reaping the rewards of playing football at a more competitive level, to accelerate his development that began at Pirates.
He spent four years at the Buccaneers after being lured to the club from the esteemed School of Excellence, that has produced the likes of Steven Pienaar during it’s active years in Gauteng.
