Pitso Mosimane’s Esteghlal FC held log leaders Sepahan FC to a 1-1 draw and extended their unbeaten run to nine successive games.
Esteghlal took the lead in the 22nd minute through Masoud Juma. The Kenyan international netted his first goal since completing a move to Esteghlal in December last year.
Mosimane’s side went into the break with a 1-0 lead with the hope of ending their three-match winless run in the league after successive draws.
They thought they had it in the bag up until Mehdi Limouchi equalised for Sepahan with 15 minutes left in regular time.
Sepahan were reduced to 10-man with five minutes left when Seyed Mohammad Karimi received a second yellow card.
Despite the red card, Esteghlal couldn’t take advantage as Sepahan managed to hold on for a point away from home. Mosimane’s Esteghlal remained 10th in the league table with 18 points after 15 games, whole Sepahan dropped from first into second place.
Their next encounter is against relegation-threatened Shams Azar Qazvin in three weeks.
