Mpheni On Pirates & Chiefs Support In Downs Tie

Mpheni Home Defenders head coach Sydwell Phuravhathu would appreciate the support from Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates fans when they face Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pharavhathu promises a good fight against Sundowns even though nobody is giving them a chance in the Nedbank Cup round of 16.

The Limpopo-based side will be playing the last 16 for the second time in their history after reaching the same stage in 2022 when they were eliminated 2-0 by Chippa United.

Speaking exclusively with iDiski Times, Phuravhathu promised the supporters of Mpheni a good fight and made a statement that they not going into the game with a mindset of losing the match.

“We are not there to give up, we are going there to fight, we have nothing to lose, and nobody is giving us a chance,” Phuravhathu said.

“We not going there to say they gonna beat us, but we are going to compete, and football is football,”

“We are working on our weaknesses, we’ve done our homework. We are not entitled to play Nedbank Cup, we qualified, we fought to be here, the fact that we are in the last 16, and we worked so hard to beat Hungry Lions, it was not an easy game.”

Pharavhathu also mentioned that he would appreciate support from Chiefs and Pirates fans on Sunday.

“I don’t think we will get support from them because to me they might be tempted to that,” he added.

“We do not stand a chance to get good results, that’s what they believe in. If they [Chiefs & Pirates fans] do support us, we will really appreciate their support, and then we gonna fight.”
