Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi says Gavin Hunt’s SuperSport United is a major challenge and they could have beaten Orlando Pirates had it not been for refereeing error.
Ahead of their first-round Carling Knockout tie at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium this weekend, the new Chiefs coach takes on the former Amakhosi mentor for the first time.
The four-time league winners have endured an indifferent start to the season but are clearly targeting the title, as stated at the start of the season by club CEO Stan Matthews.
While they acknowledged the league may be a bridge too far for the current squad, the domestic cups on offer will be challenged for.
Meanwhile, Chiefs are chasing their first silverware in over a decade, with Nabi bringing the optimism that they could be turning the corner.
“I am expecting a very challenging game, sincerely speaking they, SuperSport, are a very good team, I watched them in the MTN8 against Orlando Pirates where they almost won,” Nabi said about the upcoming game.
“They had the possibility of winning, except for a referee mistake. They should have received a penalty; it’s the reality.
“Very aggressive commitment and tactically organised team, my colleague Gavin has a lot of skill and experience.
“He knows how to manage his people, and prepares his players, I’m expecting a very good game, challenging and let’s see what happens.”
The two sides meet in Polokwane on Saturday at 20h00.
