Former SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt has joined Durban City, the club announced today.
Hunt, 60, left SuperSport in March just shortly after overseeing the 1000th game of his managerial career.
Meanwhile, Durban City had parted ways with Simo Dladla despite gaining promotion to the Betway Premiership as Motsepe Foundation Championship winners.
Hunt succeeds Dladla at the club, who were rebranded from Maritzburg United, one season after their relegation from the top-flight after a sponsorship dispute, which saw the municipality back Royal AM and subsequently the use of Harry Gwala in the Betway Premiership.
However, a new dawn is ahead with owner Farook Kadodia confirming his arrival on Wednesday morning, expressing confidence in the experience coach.
“We are thrilled to welcome Gavin to Durban City, his record speaks for itself and we believe he is the right person to lead our team into an exciting new era. His professionalism, football knowledge and winning mentality are exactly what the club needs at the highest level.”
Hunt is expected to be working alongside Ernst Middendorp, who is set to be confirmed as the club’s new Technical Director for the new season.
City are Hunt’s 10th club after he started his coaching career at Seven Stars, before joining Hellenic, Black Leopards, Moroka Swallows, SuperSport United, Bidvest Wits, Kaizer Chiefs, Chippa United and most recently Matsatsantsa again.
He lifted four PSL titles, one MTN8, one Nedbank Cup and one Telkom Knockout during his illustrious career.
