Pirates Steal Second Place In DStv Prem Season Finale

Orlando Pirates secured second place ahead of Stellenbosch in a dramatic 2023/24 DStv Premiership finale.

Pirates 1-1 drew against SuperSport United at Orlando Stadium, who were vying for a fourth-place spot ahead of TS Galaxy, secured them an unlikely CAF Champions League spot.

Tshegofatso Mabasa, found the net before the end of the first half, which marked his 16th league goal of the season, and the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot award ahead of Iqraam Rayners.

Gape Moralo netted the equaliser for Matstsansa but Stellenbosch, who were in the driving seat, succumbed to relegation play-off-bound Richards Bay 2-1 at the King Zwelthini Stadium.

The home side raced into the lead inside the opening 20 minutes with goals from Ntsako Makhudubela and Yanela Mbuthuma in KZN which spoiled the party for Steve Barker and his troops.

Iqraam Rayners netted a second half consolation to go to 15 league goals as Pirates secured the Champions League spot via goal difference.

Stelllies, however, grabbed the CAF Confederation Cup spot with a third-place finish, which will be the club’s first foray into continental football.
