Polokwane Coach On Appollis & Matuludi Transfer Talk

Polokwane City head coach Phuti Mohafe has stated they won’t be selling any players in the current transfer window.

Thabang Matuludi and Oswin Appollis have been among the most in-demand players in the league after impressive debut campaigns with Rise and Shine in the top flight.

Appollis in particular fielded two concrete offers from Esperance Sportive de Tunis, while Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch were keen on right-back Matuludi who was part of the Bafana Bafana squad during the recent Cosafa Cup.

“We kept every player that was there last season, we didn’t release, Matuludi and Oswin are still there,” Mohafe said when asked by iDiski Times about their unwillingness to sell players.

“The offers… I heard they were coming, but we fended them off because we want to be on a progressive mode from last season, we want to improve as a team and we want growth as a team.”

Polokwane open their season against league champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Saturday afternoon, which Mohafe feels is an exciting test to kick off the new campaign.

“It’s an exciting thing because we just need to be one of the surprise packages, so playing Sundowns gives you motivation in itself to say, you are playing one of the best,” he stated.

So you have to be the best on the field on the day, so it’s a motivating factor for us.”
