Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena has responded to Arthur Zwane’s comments that his Kaizer Chiefs side will go without fear into their clash on Saturday.
Chiefs actually enter the game ahead of the defending champions after Sundowns were beaten 1-0 by TS Galaxy, while the Amakhosi collected a comfortable 3-0 win over Maritzburg United on Tuesday already.
Both now sit on three points after two matches into the 2022/23 campaign and will meet each other in the headline-game of round three.
Zwane had insisted ahead of the game that Chiefs are fearing no team in the league and will try to take the game to their rivals, with Mokwena admitting the comment just proves their rivals’ changed mentality.
“I just say that they think they are a big team and rightfully so,” he said when asked by iDiski Times about Zwane’s comments.
“Big teams never change their profile. They adapt and adapt to certain situation but never change their profile. So I would say he is correct to make that type of statement.”
Mokwena also stated that one can feel the excitement ahead of Saturday’s clash, which he thinks is destined to be a spectacle.
“It’s going to be quite interesting. But I think fixture in itself has always presented that type of spectacle,” he added.
“I think you even see with the numbers in the media room how much excitement there is from the general public and the football lovers. And that’s how it should be.
“In big football nations, the big football clubs drive the interest, they drive the passion and the play from a technical perspective.”
Sundowns will face the Glamour Boys at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria at 15:00.
