Stellies Stage Thrilling Comeback, Leapfrogs Chiefs

It was a goal fest DStv Diski Challenge on Saturday as Stellenbosch FC moved top in their 3-2 comeback win over Richards Bay while Golden Arrows hammered SuperSport United 5-3 in their clash.

The Natal Rich Boyz had their boot on the throat of the defending champions as it way their morning in Paradise, and everything they did turned into gold. Stellies were left stunned earlier on and somewhere in the country Kaizer Chiefs was rejoicing. 

Ntlonelo Bomelo started all the damage in the 31st minute before completing his brace shortly after to make 2-0 and Stellies had a mountain to climb for the next 45 minutes as they could see the title being dusted and ready to be delivered at Naturena Village. 

The Cape Winelands side however showed championship pedigree by pulling one goal back in the 46th minute through Kenan Johannesen and soon their belief and spark kicked in as towering defender Tylon Smith completed the comeback in the 60th minute to make it 2-2. 

Stellies goalkeeper Dejean Ah Shene stood between the third goal and Bay as he made two crucial saves to keep the defending champions in the game.

With seven minutes remaining, Stellenbosch took the lead for the first in the game after Sbangani Zulu turned the ball into his own net to make 3-2 as the Cape Winelands outfit replaced Chiefs at the top of the standings, with Amakhosi still having two games in hand. 

Matsatsantsa are officially out of the title race after suffering a 5-3 defeat against Arrows. The Tshwane side threw away a 2-0 lead after Siviwe Magidigidi netted a brace inside the first 20 minutes. Kwanda Mthembu pulled one back for Arrows to make it 2-1. 

Four minutes into the second half, Arrows completed the comeback through Sfundi Shezi who made it 2-2. After 60 minutes of football, Arrows were 3-2 up. The KwaZulu-Natal-based side scored two quick goals to make it 5-2 and officially ended SuperSport’s title hopes. United pulled one back but it was too little too late as the tie ended 5-3.
