Mamelodi Sundowns secured a 5-0 win over Girabola side G.D. Sagrada Esperança in their pre-season friendly at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.
After spending a couple of days in Rustenberg, Sundowns beat Marumo Gallants 3-1 before thrashing the Angolan league runners-up in back-to-back games on Sunday.
Lesiba Nku, Kutlwano Letlhaku and Thapelo Maseko were on the scoresheet for Sundowns, while Gabadinho Mhango netted from the spot for the hosts.
Maseko has seemingly been converted into a striker and has scored three goals in four games in his new role during the pre-season.
Esperança qualified for the CAF Champions League but were up against it with Sundowns who are finding form towards their 2024/25 season opener on Sunday in the MTN8 against Polokwane.
Tashreeq Matthews, who was one of their standout players in Austria was once against on the scoresheet, while Peter Shalulile and Lucas Ribeiro Costa both bagged two goals each.
The results comes at a time where coach Manqoba Mngqithi sent a warning of a system change for Masandawana from last season, with a fluid 4-3-3, bringing more pace, width and faster build-ups.
In the recent Pitchside Podcast, he stated they will be improving their box entries, which was displayed in Austria with the xG improving and part of his season’s KPI is to get the squad to score more goals this season.
