Truter Confirms AmaZulu Talks

AmaZulu interim coach Brandon Truter, who is unbeaten since taking the hot seat, has confirmed that he’ll be sitting down with the club’s management this week to speak about his future.

Truter took over from Benni McCarthy, and the former Swallows coach has said that taking over after a much-loved figure like McCarthy, meant he had to focus on man-management first.

Truter has collected three 1-0 wins and two goalless draws since taking over the reigns and said he said he would be having talks with management about his future at the club, and whether he will take the head coach role on a permanent basis next season.

“We having talks this week,” Truter told reporters.

“Currently it looks positive, it’s three wins and three draws, no goals conceded, no losses as well.

“But for now, ja, I’m fully confident and God willing, I will have the job. We are in the process of planning pre-season, by setting up camps and with my input as well, so it looks very positive.”

When asked by iDiski Times journalist Rob Delport how he rates his time at the club so far, Truter felt he had done well in his first five matches.

“Of course, once you plan from the beginning of the season and like I said Sundowns is the only one that they conceded less goals than us, it’s always a good footing to build from, you understand. Like I said earlier as well defenders wins you the league and we can see it as well, so it’s a good base for me,” he added.

“But ja, I couldn’t change much when I came in, there wasn’t time really to change the formation, to change the structure as well. I had to just tweak it here and there.

“As you can see, I favour the inverted fullback, I favour the wide wingers as well. Here we were very narrow with the fullbacks up high and wide.

“So ja, the coaching of the individual to preference, and of course the management of the guys as well, bringing the squad together and then winning them over and believing what I’m bringing to the table, I think that was always the challenge.

“With Benni leaving and being a big figure in South African football, the highest goal scorer won the Champions League, you can go on and on.

“And that’s the type of coach you want to play for, and for the players to lose him at that moment, I do understand that me coming in as well, and still thinking about Benni leaving, but that happens in football.

“So the man management and winning their confidence was the first thing that I had to get right. So I think I’m in the right direction at the moment.

“So ja, hopefully we’ll have a good preseason and I’m still there, and ja it will be a different team that you see next season.”
