Why I Never Left Chiefs – Teenage Dladla

Kaizer Chiefs legend Nelson ‘Teenage’ Dladla has revealed why he never left Amakhosi saying it’s because of his love for the team and what it cost for him to join the club.

The 70-year-old spent 12 seasons at Naturena between 1976 and 1988 playing over 400 games and scoring 125 goals and was considered one of the best players to ever don the black and gold jersey.

Dladla spoke to iDiski Times senior writer Matshelane Mamabolo in edition 200 of the newspaper, revealing that he did get offers to move even abroad like some of his teammates but.

However, the former midfielder admitted that the circumstances that led to his transfer to Chiefs where promoter the late Ewert Nene lost his life also influenced his decision to spend this career at Naturena.

“Yes, I did get offers,” Dladla told iDiski Times.

“Once, Mr Motaung came to me and said, ‘There’s a chance for you to go abroad to play with Malombo [Lichaba] in Portugal’. But I said to him, ‘Bra K, if I go, who will be left?’ Ace [Ntsoelengoe] was also gone. I stayed because I loved Chiefs.

“I did not want to leave. How could I when someone lost his life for me to be at this club? I stayed because I wanted to honour Ewert. That’s why I will always be a Khosi.”
