AmaZulu FC co-coach Arthur Zwane has praised Bongani Zungu’s quality after the midfielder’s debut goal in only his second match for the club.
Zungu scored the only goal away at Magesi FC to fire Usuthu into the top eight on Saturday afternoon in his official first start since arriving at the club last month.
Zwane says it has been difficult to get the former Mamelodi Sundowns man and others into top shape because of several reasons which why he is proud of the goal and the win essentially as it is a result of the side’s resilience.
“Look, there is no doubt Bongani is a quality player,” said Zwane when asked by iDiski Times about Zungu and his goal.
“He’s got experience. He has been in the game he’s played at the highest level, so it was a case of us building him up.
“We know we are going to need him as time goes on, and unfortunately, we are finding it difficult to get practice matches where we can build him up. Not only him Bongani, because we have our sort of like return to play protocol.
“And unfortunately, we’re forced now to building them up with official games, because there’s very few games or teams that are available to play against us.
“Also, many other things that are making our life difficult, the weather as well sometimes the field is waterlogged.
“That is why I’m saying for the guys, for them to come here and grind the results it wasn’t going to be easy. I’m so proud we are so proud of them. They gave their all. You could see towards the last 20 minutes; we were finished they were just pushing themselves.

“They showed that mentally they are strong, and they showed a lot of character. But the good thing about that is that they held onto the ball.
“They didn’t want to lose the ball cheaply because the only time the opposition had us was when they had the ball. But we made sure that they don’t have the ball, we did tremendously well.”
The KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit now sits in eighth position with 16 points from 13 matches while having condemned Dikwena Tṧa Meetse to the foot of the table with just seven points in 12 outings.
