Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has slammed the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup branding it as the “worst idea in football”.
Klop, who has been out of active management since leaving the EPL champions in 2024 before taking up the Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull in January 2025, cited key reasons such as high-profile injuries why the competition is detrimental to the sport.

Several problems that have been much-talked about is weather delays and low attendances with Klopp not holding back in his assessment.
“The Club World Cup is the worst idea ever implemented in football,” he told German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, as per the Daily Mail.
“People who have never had anything to do with day-to-day business are coming up with ideas. I fear that next season players will suffer injuries they’ve never had before.
“If not, then it’ll happen at the World Cup or afterwards.”
The tournament was expanded to 32 teams for this year’s edition which has widely been criticised for the toll it could take on the bodies of players once the tournament is over.
