A much-anticipated meeting between football brothers Jude and Jobe Bellingham will not happen, for now, as the latter will serve suspension for Real Madrid’s Club World Cup quarter-final clash against Borussia Dortmund.
The 19-year-old was booked for a tackle on Nelson Deossa against Monterrey, having also been booked before in their 1-0 win over Ulsan HD during the group stages.
Real progressed to the last eight on Tuesday night after a narrow 1-0 victory over Juventus courtesy of Gonzalo Garcia’s solitary strike while Dortmund saw off Monterrey 2-1 thanks to Serhou Guirassy’s brace.
“I think we all saw that he was very disappointed,” Dortmund manager Niko Kovac said, according to the Irish Independent.
“I think he did not exactly know that the second yellow card is a suspension at halftime. He was a little bit surprised.”
Kovac however believes that the two brothers will have more opportunities to face each other in future.
“Okay, he’s young. His brother is also young, so I’m convinced they will face each other, maybe next season in the Champions League, and then the future. The future is for them.
“And yeah, the Club World Cup would be nice, but now it isn’t. Someone else must play for him, but it’s also okay.”
Jobe was hauled off in the 55th minute to avoid any chance of a red card and will instead be looking on from the sidelines when Real take on Dortmund in New York on Saturday, 5 July.
