FIFA president Gianni Infantino has congratulated Mamelodi Sundowns to their qualification for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Sundowns were knocked out of the CAF Champions League semi-final for a second successive campaign after going down 1-0 to ES Tunis, losing the tie 2-0 on aggregate.
But despite another CAFCL heartbreak, Masandawana booked their spot at the extended 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after Al Ahly eliminated TP Mazembe in the other semi-final.
Sundowns qualified via the ranking pathway alongside ES Tunis, while Al Ahly and Wydad AC qualified as recent CAFCL winners.
After Sundowns became the fourth African team to qualify alongside Al Ahly, Wydad AC and ES Tunis, Infantino sent a message to the South African giants.
“Many, many congratulations to the brilliant qualification to the brand-new FIFA Club World Cup, the Mundial de Clubes in 2025, next year in the United States of America, many congratulations to Mamelodi Sundowns,” he stated on social media.
The tournament will take place between June and July in 2025.
