Morocco and Brazil secured crucial wins in the early hours of Saturday morning to all but book their spots in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Atlas Lions beat Scotland 1-0 thanks to an early goal by Ismael Saibari after just 70 seconds – the fastest goal at the tournament before Paraguay later beat that record in their 1-0 win over Türkiye.
Saibari has now scored in back-to-back games, as Morocco held on to the crucial three points despite late pressure from the Scottish.
Mohamed Ouahbi’s side moved to four points in Group C and have all but secured a spot in the Round of 32. They are in second place behind Brazil based on goal difference, after the Selecao made light work of Haiti, who are coached by former Marumo Gallants coach Sebastien Migne.
Three first-half goals by Matheus Cunha, who netted a brace, and Vinicius Junior with his second at the tournament saw Carlo Ancelotti’s also move to four points.
While Morocco face minnows Haiti in their final group match, Brazil will take on Scotland, who are not out after three points from their first two matches.
USA Qualify, Turkiye Out
The co-hosts secured their spot in the knockout stages after just two games. Mauricio Pochettino’s men beat Australia 2-0 thanks to an own goal by Cameron Burgess and a second by Alexander Freeman before the break.
It’s the first time that the US have won two group stage matches since 1930 and the first time they reached six points during the group stages.
Meanwhile, Turkiye have been eliminated despite registering over 30 shots in their 1-0 defeat to Paraguay. Los Guaraníes struck the quickest goal of this tournament, with Matías Galarza scoring after 64 seconds.
Paraguay managed to hold onto their slender lead despite Miguel Almiron becoming the first player to be sent off for covering his mouth just before the break.
The USA top Group D with six points, followed by Australia and Paraguay with three – while Turkiye have no chance to progress with zero points from their two games so far.
